When to see an OT

An Occupational Therapist (OT) can assist children and adults to develop, improve or maintain skills to perform day-to-day activities that are important to their health and well-being.

If a child or adult is having difficulty completing everyday tasks due to pain, injury, illness or disability then an Occupational Therapist can help identify areas of strength and difficulty, set goals, encourage progress, implement strategies and teach skills so the client can achieve successful outcomes.

Who can benefit from visiting an Occupational Therapist?

Allegro Physiotherapy welcomes clients of all ages and diagnoses who may improve their quality of life from Occupational Therapy, including:

  • people who have had strokes

  • people with autism and other neurological differences

  • people recovering from surgeries

  • people with depression or anxiety

  • the elderly

Our qualified and experienced Occupational Therapists provide services to help people to increase independence and live life to the fullest, including:

  • self-care (bathing, dressing, toileting & eating)

  • cognitive skills (attention, memory & problem solving)

  • fine motor skills (pencil & scissor grip, writing, drawing & colouring)

  • gross motor skills (running, jumping, skipping, hopping, throwing & catching)

  • daily living skills (meal preparation, hygiene, house keeping & grocery shopping)

  • sensory processing (visual, auditory, tactile, taste & smell)

  • emotional and self-regulation (impulsivity & willpower)

  • play and socialising (negotiation, compromise, collaboration & communication)

  • mental health (sleep, diet, exercise & hobbies)

  • employment (following instructions, reliability, initiative & adaptability)

  • rehabilitation following illness, injury or surgery (strength, motion, stretching & dressings)

How will an Occupational Therapist help?

Occupational Therapists are highly trained health-care professionals who take a person-centered approach to a client’s individual needs – taking into consideration mental state, social and environmental factors that may be affecting successful completion of outcomes.

An OT may come to where you live or work to assess what you do and what kind of changes can be made to help in your efficiency.  Some solutions might include changing furniture around, altering the way you move or introducing aids so you can accomplish the tasks you need or want to do.
