Answering the 5 most frequently asked questions about the NDIS

Earlier this year, Allegro Physiotherapy became the first Allied Health service to become a registered provider for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in the Midwest

This means, we have demonstrated that we meet the specific quality requirements to deliver support, services and products that help a person in their daily life and assist them to participate in the community and reach their goals.

When it comes to the NDIS, people usually have lots of questions. It can be a lot to wrap your head around! In this blog, we answer some of the most common questions we get asked.

1. What is the NDIS?

The NDIS was introduced by the federal government a few years ago, and it has changed the way disability services are funded and delivered in Australia.

Through the NDIS, people with disability can be provided with direct access to funds, based on their individual needs.
The NDIS provides people with disabilities the information and connections to services in their communities such as doctors, allied health professionals, sporting clubs and support groups.

2. Am I eligible for the NDIS?

Eligible participants in the Midwest and Gascoyne regions are able to access the NDIS.

On the NDIS website you can complete an NDIS eligibility checklist.

If you meet the criteria and you would like to become a participant, you can make an Access Request by calling 1800 800 110 or complete an online Access Request form and submit via email.

If you need help accessing the eligibility checklist, filling out the form or making the call, let us know.  We can provide complimentary assistance to complete this.

3. What kind of support is funded by the NDIS?

There are many different types of supports the NDIS funds for participants, including:

  • daily personal activities

  • transport to enable participation in community, social, economic & daily life activities

  • workplace help to allow a participant to successfully gain or keep employment

  • therapeutic supports, including behaviour support

  • help with household tasks to allow the participant to maintain their home environment

  • help by skilled personnel with an aid or equipment assessment, set up & training

  • home modification design & construction

  • mobility equipment &

  • vehicle modifications

Our PhysiotherapySpeech Pathology and Occupational Therapy support services are available to be included in an NDIS plan.

4. Who can help with an NDIS application and plan in the Midwest?

Allegro offers complimentary assessments to eligible participants. We can also attend your initial planning meeting with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to support you through this process.

Once your plan is completed by the NDIA, we can help to guide you through each step of the process, set you up with Therapy services and assist with any equipment or Technology you may require.

5. If I have an NDIS plan, can I only go to an NDIS registered provider for the services required?

NDIS registered providers are able to see participants from all 3 funding management groups – whether it be self-managed, plan managed or NDIA managed.  As a registered provider, Allegro can help you with all of your Allied Health needs.

Your NDIS funding may be used for supports and services that are related to your disability and will help you to achieve the goals in your NDIS plan.
